Summer Music Camp Information & Registration

June 24- August 2, 2019 

Enrollment Deadline: April 1st, 2019 

 

Summers at Play On, Philly are an opportunity for musical and social-emotional growth.  Student participants, grades 1-12, come from POP school-year programming and from across the City of Philadelphia. Ensembles perform regularly for other campers, off-campus, and in formal concerts for families and friends.  Please read on for information about summer sessions, fees, and registration.

 

Location: Temple University Boyer College of Music and Dance (2001 N. 13 St., Philadelphia, PA 19122) 

 

Summer Schedule: Camp will run from June 24th-August 2nd. Elementary/ Middle School sessions are 2 weeks each and students may register for 1, 2, or all 3 summer sessions.  High School sessions are 3 weeks each and students may register for 1 or both sessions.  Students will be expected to attend every program day and any performances during the session(s) for which they register.  Each session is programmed around a unique theme and will culminate in a performance at the conclusion.

 

 

Elementary & Middle School Students**
(rising 1st - 8th graders)

Session 1: June 24 - July 5 (July 4 - No Programming)
Session 2: July 8 - July 19
Session 3: July 22 - August 2
 
**5th-8th grade students must have at least one year playing their instrument 


Class Offerings: Choir, Studio Class Wind Ensemble, String Ensemble, Music Exploratory, Symphony Orchestra, Instrument Making, Composition, Private Lessons

High School Students
(rising 9th - 12th graders)

(8:30-10:30am class is optional)

**9th-12th grade students must have at least three to four years playing their instrument  

 
Class Offerings: Symphony Orchestra, Instrument Making/Repair, Composition, Recording, Pop Strings, Brass Band, Junior Teaching Artist
 

Special Projects: Shakespeare in Clark Park

 

Electives: Instrument Making & Repair, Composition & Recording, Junior TA

 
Musical Focus: Ensemble Playing, Instrument Technique and Refinement, Music and Social Justice

 

High School Students have the opportunity to participate in an optional elective each morning from 8:30am-10:30am.  Interested students can choose from the following:

Instrument Making

 

Students will make their own instruments out of recycled materials. 

  

 

 

 Composition & Recording

 

Students will learn the fundamentals of composition to create their own piece of music!  At the end of the session, pieces will be recorded and performed.

Junior Teaching Artist

 

Students will have the opportunity to work with a Teaching Artist to plan, prepare, and facilitate lessons for  elementary and middle school campers.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and a light snack will be provided to students.  Students may bring their own meals, however, we cannot refrigerate or reheat food items.  

Registration Fee: $25 per student. This is a one-time fee that must be submitted with the completed registration forms.  Please note, the discount for sessions will be included at the checkout on the online registration form.

 

Registration & Tuition

A registration fee is required with the submission of your registration form in order to secure a space in each session. Please note, sessions do not have to be consecutive for the tuition discount.

Registration Fee: The one-time registration of $25 per student (including current POP students) must be submitted with the completed online registration form.  Completed hard copy registration forms can be mailed in with a check or money order (no cash, please) made out to Play On, Philly:

Tuition: Tuition payments are due no later than two weeks prior to the session your student(s) will attend camp.  Currently enrolled POP students do not have to pay tuition as summer camp is included in the yearly POP participation fee, just the $25 registration fee.
